Monday Morning Sunrise Hike in Orchard Hills
A Cure for the Monday Morning Blues…
Early risers, this program is for you! After you roll out of bed and enjoy your
cup of java, join us at Orchard Hills at 6 a.m. Monday, August 17 and kick-start
your week by connecting with nature. Wake up to the natural world, astounding views
and steep hills. It sure beats the crowded, sweaty gym.
This invigorating three-mile trek offers breath-taking vistas and photo opportunities
as the sun slowly rises over Orange County. Travel through working avocado orchards
and get your heart pumping with several steep climbs with 800 feet of accumulated
elevation. In addition to the views, anticipate seeing a variety of wildlife that
could include coyotes, bobcats, brush rabbits, hawks and song birds.
A multi-use trail with a double loop, Orchard Hills skirts the edge of an avocado
orchard. The larger loop is just over three miles long, and is relatively strenuous,
with a substantial elevation gain halfway through the loop. The reward for all the
effort is a beautiful vista near Loma Ridge that takes in the coastal hills and
all of Irvine. On a clear day it is possible to see Catalina Island, the Palos Verdes Peninsula,
and even the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles.
This journey is considered moderately strenuous, so wear sturdy shoes and come prepared
with water, sun protection, your camera and lots of energy! Ages 12 and up are welcome
on this program.
